Why Biodynamic Wine
The biodynamic farming movement first started in the 1920s when a group of German farmers noticed the negative impact that agro-industrial practices, and the use of chemical fertilisers were starting to have on their soil and yields. They were convinced that there had to be a more holistic view on farming and working with nature. So, in 1924 they asked Rudolf Steiner, a highly trained Austrian scientist and respected philosopher, to hold an agricultural course in Koberwitz.
Biodynamic wine is produced using a holistic, ecological, and ethical approach to farming that originated in the 1920s and is based on the spiritual science philosophy developed by Austrian philosopher & scientist Rudolf Steiner.
Biodynamic farming is a relatively new method of farming in Argentina with the first winery in the country obtaining Demeter biodynamic certification in 2008. Since then, along with the increase in sustainable practices and organic production, the number of Argentine wineries that have become involved in biodynamic farming has grown quite considerably, experiencing over 60% growth in the last five years (2018 – 2023).
